“The To Aru Kagaku no Railgun side story is based on Kamachi’s original story set in Academy City, a city where about 80% of its 230,000 citizens are students. The story deals with the adventures of Misaka Mikoto, one of the Level 5 psychics in the To Aru Majutsu no Index light novels.” <— hate index😐
I really enjoyed the theme song to this series I found it to be very catchy.
Lets starts off with the explanation of what is Academy city ? Academy City is very highly developed in technology. The city is said to be 20 to 30 years ahead of the rest of the world when it comes down to advance technology. Furthermore, the population of the city is stated to be 2.3 million residents which 80% are students who are espers. The main focus of studies is directed toward esper powers . That basically sums up Academy city🙂
If you do not understand what are espers, it is basically people with super powers base on levels 0-5. Zero meaning you have no powers at all and five meaning you have reach the ultimate level of power.
There so much to talk about but I am going to try my best to not spoil anything for those who have not seen this show🙂
To Aru Kagaku No Railgun is a story that takes you on a wonderful action pack adventure with four girls who give you plenty to laugh about. Misaka Mikoto who is seen in Index (BLEK) is the main Protagonist, along with her three friends Kurko Shirai (Yuri character), Uiharu Kazari, and Saten Ruiko (PANTIES). When the action happen this show has no problem delivering with a BANG! The show does have some side stories but quit frankly I enjoyed them a lot. The side stories helped tell more about other characters who are some what important to the show in my opinion.
Lets get down to the good stuff the Main characters, and some other characters who caught my eye.
Misaka who is ranked the 3rd strongest level five out of seven in academy city is the star of the Railgun series. Misaka attends Tokiwadai Middle School, a famous all girl school with high class and top notch espers. People who don’t know Misaka personally sees her as a young refined proper lady. In all reality she has a temper, very stubborn, tom boyish, and a attitude ready to kick some ass if need to be. She has a strong sense of moral, and more then anything hate injustice. Although Misaka may be tom boyish she has her insecurities just like most girls, and will try to deny her love for cute childish things such as pajamas with cute patterns, and Gekota a frog. Misaka esper power is to generate electricity so powerful that it can cause a blackout. She able to create a railgun by using coins as her projectiles, and use electricity to magnetically attract iron particles around her into a chain-sword whip. She can use her electricity to manipulate electronic devices and security systems. She has a one sided rivalry with Touma ( barf). I can’t really think of anything that would cause me not to like Misaka. She is a really amazing protagonist that was portrayed very well from my perspective. When something happens that involves her friends or involved her in any kind of way she does not play. She ready to protect what is important to her and to others if she believes it is right thing to do.
Kuroko is one of my favorites in the show lol constantly had me laughing. Kuroko who also attends Tokiwadai Middle School and is roomy with Misaka is a level 4 esper. Kuroko is a member of Judgement a special public committee group whose duty is to maintain peace and order in Academy City. When she isn’t busy with judgement she obsessing over Misaka. Constantly trying to make Misaka fall for her no matter how dirty of a trick she may have to use. Always looking for an opportunity to try and get intimate with Misaka who she calls Onee-sama. Of course Misaka doesn’t put up with Kuroko who usually gets called a pervert or shocked. Kuroko gets very jealous when she sees her onee-sama paying more attention to others rather then her. Despite all that Misaka and her are best friends even if Kuroko truly is in love with her. Going out her way to protect Misaka even if it cost her life or serious injuries. You can tell Misaka cares for Kuroko as well she just isn’t in love with her. Instant teleportation is level four Kuroko power, which allows her to teleport herself and anything in her possession as long it weighs under around 130-137 kilograms to anywhere in a radius of around 81-85 meters. She generally carries a strap of needles around her leg that she can teleport to pin down enemies that she is on the hunt for. Her power needs a lot of concentration which can be a big disadvantage to her. All though Kuroko may be crazy in love with Misaka she is just as bad ass as Misaka. I really enjoy a lot of her fighting scenes through the show. She takes her job as a Judgement member very serious. She also has a rival who goes by the name Kongo Mitsuko who something else haha.
Uiharu another main character who is Shirai’s friends and colleague in Judgment . She is very shy and humble cute kind of character. Attending Sakugawa Junior High, different school from which Shirai’s attends because she is a level one meaning her powers are not very developed yet. Uiharu is known for wearing a headband made of flowers on her head, which I believe that has something to do with her esper powers. Sometimes Uhiaru wears a surgical mask as she constantly suffers from the flu. She has a sweet tooth but is often called for Judgment duties before she can enjoy her sweets. She displays various skills with the use of the computer, such as repelling hackers and information gathering.
Saten another main character, she is best friends with Uiharu who she loves to flip up her skirt to take a peek at Uiharu panties. This of course causes Uiharu great embarrassment. Attending Sakugawa Junior High just like Uiharu, Saten is a level 0 meaning she has no powers at all. Do not let her being a level 0 fool you because she plays a very important role in Railgun. Saten keeps her problems to herself but is always comforting others in need like her best friend Uiharu. Even without powers she tries her best to put up a fight to protect others. Saten is one of my personal favorites in the show a character to look out for.
She is absolutely my favorite character! The best supporting character out of all the other supportive characters in the show. I don’t want to speak to much about her because if you haven’t seen the show she is a definitely must watch out for character that plays a very important role.
Overall there wasn’t a dull moment in the first season. I was either in tears laughing or on the edge of my seat wondering what is going to happen next. One of the few animes that I just could not wait for the next episode. Definitely have your yuri goggles!
Well my fellow blog reader tell me who are your favorite characters and least favorite characters in the 1st season of Railgun. Do you have a favorite episode?
